Adult Education Becoming More Prevalent

With the job market and the economy showing no signs of turning around, many non-traditional students are finding themselves going back to school. The intent of this adult education is to become more qualified, and thus more hirable for bigger and better jobs.

It is not surprising that those past the age of 50 lack the computer skills of a younger generation. For those that did not get a college degree or any kind of special technical school training, additional schooling is nearly mandatory for today’s workplace. With even the most basic of computer skills, individuals become that much more hirable. Knowing the Microsoft Office products like Word, Excel and PowerPoint, open doors for many.

With an economy that is struggling, many are putting past-due loans on hold, through adult education programs, to continue their education. A Bachelors degree from 1990 might be equivalent to a Master’s Degree in 2011, and many are going back to get their higher education.

With improvements in online learning, many of these adult education programs can be done from the comfort of your own home. With gas prices high, and family time limited, the advantages to taking classes at home are lengthy.

While going back to school, many adults who have previous work experience channel their new learning towards something they know will be valuable. Fields like nursing, teaching and computers have grown exponentially as people see and desire to work in fields that are not going away. Many even undertake a new language as a method of making themselves more valuable within the workplace.

As technology improves, learning techniques are sure to change along with them. A student in a small rural community in Montana doesn’t have to wait for college to take calculus, because the school has an online learning program.

Stories like the one above are becoming more familiar as schools, college and higher learning institutions turn to different programs that meet the needs of their ever-individualized clients.

Accelerated Programs are gaining more acceptances, and in fact have become even stronger in the last ten years. These programs are set up for ‘non-traditional’ students that need additional flexibility within their schedules. Colleges are setting up these programs so students have the ease of taking classes on the weekends or taking online classes. The entire goal of an accelerated program is to get people through their schooling in a timely manner, and back out to the world of work.

Online classes are gaining more popularity as the ease of learning in one’s own home is appealing to just about everyone. Students now have the ability to study their course at home, on their own time constraints. Some studies suggest the large-class lecture may be a thing of the past as more and more learning institutions turn to the online structure. Others feel like the method of learning in a group setting, in a classroom will never be replaced by online learning. Whatever the opinion, online learning is growing by leaps and bounds.

It is expected that the social media like Facebook and Twitter may have a significant impact in future learning. Professor posts a question on Twitter and gets feedback from his student’s sounds like future learning.

Online Learning Giving Students Inexpensive Options

Online learning institutions are popping up all over the country, and millions of students are taking advantage of higher education in the comfort of their own home. While the traditional college experience isn’t going away anytime soon, online learning gives students several distinct advantages.

Less expensive: As tight as finances are these days, can you imagine paying hundreds of thousands of dollars in student loans? Online learning classes are much less expensive than regular classes as learning videos and lectures can be offered in lieu of having a professor dispense the lecture. In many cases, the classes are done within the confines of a student’s own home, and student loans are not quite what they used to be.

Learning from home: Your home is your sanctuary, and it’s probably the place you function best. It makes sense then that online learning within the walls of your own home probably produce better academic results. Some students do quite well in a large classroom setting, while others love the convenience of getting educated while staying at home.

Make your own schedule: When you have a class in college, you have a class, no exceptions. Online learning gives students the chance to make their own schedule and learn when it is most convenient. Even mothers with small children at home find it convenient to log on or undertake schoolwork when they have a moment to breathe.

As this online learning boon continues, it will likely be much different in five or even ten years. Advancements in social media are likely to have a big impact as students convene via Twitter and Skype.

Do Education and Getting a Good job go Hand in Hand?

Fifty years ago, a college education was something for the privileged. With jobs plentiful, many chose to go right to work instead of spending four years in a higher learning institution.

Those days have long since vanished, and young people especially are forced to undertake some kind of higher learning to guarantee themselves a secure spot in the financial world. Fortunately, educational institutions have changed along with the demands, and today’s students find themselves with more choices than ever.

An Associated Degree has an average wage of ($55,500) while the high school graduate makes significantly less. Getting a Masters Degree does not ultimately guarantee high wages as the jobs are usually in the field of counselors, who do not make a high wage.

High school graduates typically earn 1.2 million over the course of their working life while a college graduate earns just over 2.3 million. That comparison in and of itself sets the table that getting some type of education increases the amount of money a person will earn in a lifetime.

With many ‘trade schools’ and Associate programs available, some students are taking the route of going to school for 12-24 months with an interest in getting out into the workforce. With a difficult economy and joblessness very high, some qualified workers are even going back to school to upgrade their skills and make themselves more marketable.

A college degree does not ultimately guarantee success in the workplace, but studies suggest that those with higher education are more hirable and make almost twice the amount of money that non graduates do.

How to Get Good Grades in College

College is a huge developer of one’s character, work ethic, and study habits. However, the first two won’t get you very far without the essential component: good grades. Rather than find yourself worried on graduation day – or even the months before or after – it’s important to develop good studying habits. Through steady practice of good habits, one should be able to earn the best grades they’re capable of earning. Here are some tips towards getting grades that you and your employer can both be proud of.

Cramming for a test is nonsense. The idea behind attaining a master degree is to learn facts and concepts that you’ll apply later in life. Cramming is a method that’s only good for short term fact retention. And it’s not even very good for that!

Get plenty of sleep the night before any exam. If you insist on cramming for tests, at least do yourself the favor of doing so two nights before each test. In this way, you’ll concentrate on getting that other important test-taking variable under your belt: mental acuity. Walking rested into the test is one of the best things you can do to improve your marks.

Always defend your thinking on written tests if your marks aren’t where you expect them to be. Teachers will often consider your thought process, and re-mark your grade higher.

Don’t study alone. Fellow students may be learning at the same time as you, but they grasp different concepts than you do, at different times. Compound your knowledge by sharing your individual comprehension.

Follow these four simple steps to get your grades falling in line as you desire.
